Which Window Style Fits Your Home?
Choosing the right window style for your home isn't a one-size-fits-all decision. The window you choose affects how a room breathes, how much natural light enters, and how the space functions. At Everlasting Window & Door, we match the right replacement window type to each room, orientation, and homeowner's goals.
Different rooms call for different solutions. A window above a kitchen sink has different requirements than one facing west across an open lot. The section below outlines each replacement window style we offer, with context to help you determine which fits your situation.
Replacement Window Types
Choosing new windows is easier when you understand what each style does best. Some windows are designed for airflow, others for wide views, and others for spaces where privacy, easy operation, or custom sizing matters.
Single-Hung and Double-Hung Windows
Single-hung and double-hung windows are two of the most common replacement window styles. Both open vertically, but they operate a little differently.
On a single-hung window, only the bottom sash moves. On a double-hung window, both the top and bottom sashes can open, giving you more control over ventilation and easier cleaning. Double-hung windows are especially helpful in bedrooms and living areas because they let cooler air enter from the bottom while warmer air escapes from the top.
Sliding Windows
Sliding windows open side to side along a horizontal track. They’re a good fit for areas where you don't want a window to swing outward, such as above counters, near patios, or along walkways.
They’re easy to open, provide plenty of airflow, and work well in wider wall openings where a vertical window may not look right.
Casement Windows
Casement windows are hinged on the side and open outward with a crank. This makes them useful in hard-to-reach areas, such as over a sink, because they are easy to operate.
They also offer excellent ventilation. When fully open, the sash can help catch side breezes and direct fresh air into the home. Because they do not have a rail through the middle of the glass, they are also a strong choice when you want a clearer view.
Picture Windows
Picture windows are fixed windows, which means they do not open. Their main purpose is to bring in natural light and create a wide, clean view.
They’re often used in living rooms, great rooms, and other areas where the view matters most. Since they do not provide ventilation, many homeowners pair them with operable windows on one or both sides.
Awning Windows
Awning windows are hinged at the top and open outward from the bottom. This design allows for ventilation while offering some protection from light rain.
They work well in kitchens, bathrooms, and higher wall placements where you want airflow and natural light without giving up privacy. Awning windows can also be paired with picture windows for a balanced mix of view and ventilation.
Bay and Bow Windows
Bay and bow windows both extend outward from the wall, adding dimension to the outside of the home and more usable space inside.
A bay window usually has three sections: a larger center window and two smaller, angled side windows. A bow window uses multiple sections to create a softer, curved look. Both styles can make a room feel larger, bring in more light, and create space for a bench, plants, or décor.
For Phoenix-area homes, bay and bow windows can be custom-sized to fit existing openings, including older or non-standard spaces.
Custom Window Options
Not every home has standard window openings. Older homes, unique floor plans, and architectural details often call for custom sizing.
We work with ProVia to source replacement windows built for your specific openings, including custom bay and bow windows. We can also complete window-to-door conversions when you want to turn an existing window opening into a functional door without major structural changes.

Common Questions About Our Replacement Windows
Start by thinking about what you want the window to do. If ventilation is your priority, choose an operable style, such as a casement, double-hung, or sliding window. If light and views come first, a picture or bay window is a better fit. Room function, wall space, and window orientation all matter.
In most cases, yes, though it requires more than a direct swap. Converting a standard opening typically requires structural work to accommodate the projection. Custom sizing lets us work with your existing dimensions, and a free estimate determines what your specific wall can support.
Arizona's heat and sun exposure put real demands on window materials and glass. Pay attention to how a window handles solar heat gain, since poorly rated windows on west-facing walls noticeably affect comfort. ProVia windows perform in Southwestern conditions and carry ENERGY STAR certification, a useful benchmark for comparison. An estimate conversation helps determine which glass package suits your home's orientation.
